A woman has no prostate. Can her male children inherit gene from her that increases prostate cancer chances?

It’s known that a family history of prostate cancer increased the odds for prostate cancer. But can the gene responsible for this be passed on by women, who, obviously, have no prostate themselves?

At least 11 genes have been identified as being linked to prostate cacner risk.

If they are on the y chromosome, a woman cannot pass them on, if they occur anywhere else, she can.

“Those comparisons linked prostate cancer to variations in the following genes: MSMB, LMTK2, KLK3, CTBP2, JAZF1, CPNE3, IL16, CDH13, EHBP1, NUDT10, and NUDT11. Several other genetic variations also stood out but haven’t been mapped to any particular gene.”

It’s worth mentioning that only 5 - 10% of a prostate cancer cases are caused by inherited susceptibility genes.

A strong family history of breast cancer may also affect a man’s risk of prostate cancer, particularly if the family members were diagnosed before the age of 60
